Hoarding can be a fire hazard. Many occupants die in fires in these types of homes. Often, blocked exits prevent escape from the home. In addition, many people who are hoarding can suffer injuries when they trip over things or when materials fall on them.
Hoarding makes fighting fires and searching for occupants far more difficult. Responding firefighters can be put at risk due to obstructed exits, falling objects, and excessive fire loading that can eventually lead to collapse.

Leaving a child alone in a vehicle can lead to tragedy. These deaths, while accidental, are always preventable. The IAFF has partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Park, Look, Lock” campaign to educate the public about children being left in vehicles: nhtsa.gov/heatstroke.
