On August 26, 2013 at 0833 hours, Hartsdale Fire received a call from Fairview Fire Department requesting Tower Ladder 15 to respond to a possible fire located at 19 Tomahawk Drive. With Tower Ladder 15 in route, FFD Rescue 3 arrived on location and confirmed they had a working structure fire. The "Working Fire" assignment added an additional Engine Company from Hartsdale to the scene as well as Companies from White Plains and Greenville to assist in fire suppression and incident stabilization.
Members of E-170 arrived on location and were directed by Tomahawk Command to begin opening up the interior walls and void spaces to check for horizontal and vertical fire extension. E-170 and TL-15 operated in a heavy smoke condition with poor visibility during the initial stages of this incident. It was determined that the fire had not extended beyond the first floor. HFD members than assisted in salvage and overhaul operations until the fire was placed under control.
At 0951, Engine 170 was released by Tomahawk Command and TL-15 was requested to relocate to Fairview Fire Headquarters to standby until FFD units could become available. All Hartsdale Fire Units were back in service at 1009 hours.
This incident occurred at a one and a half story private dwelling with truss roof construction. The cause of the fire is still being determined. No injuries were reported.
