On Monday, September 8th friends and family gathered to take part in a very special night for the members of the Hartsdale Fire Department. The Hartsdale Fire District held its annual awards ceremony to recognize members of the organization for outstanding performance or meritorious actions taken throughout the 2013 calendar year.
The process for selecting recipients involves a panel of representatives comprised of both Career and Volunteer Firefighters, along with the Chief of the Department and two Fire Commissioners meeting to review selected alarms for consideration.
The Board of Fire Commissioners and the Chief of the Department thanked all the members of the Hartsdale Fire Department for tremendous job they do day in and day out during the course of the year. Although only some members were the recipients of awards this year, it in no way diminishes the efforts of each individual member of the Department.
Among the many awards presented, 5 members were the recipients of Life Saving Awards. Captain OReilly, Firefighter Esterly and Townsend all received a Life Save for successfully assisting in the resuscitation of a patient in Cardiac Arrest. Captain Nanko and Firefighter Lacalamita received a Life Save while operating at a working fire in the Hartsdale Fire District. Captain Nanko and Firefighter Lacalamita successfully located an unconscious party while conducting a primary search on the fire floor of a private dwelling. The victim was removed, via the interior stairs and delivered to the care of GPD EMS units.
