On Wednesday morning multiple members of the Greenburgh Police Department, Hartsdale and Fairview Fire Departments reported to the New Tappan Zee Bridge. The technical rescue team members were there to walk through the site and pre-plan the site in the event of a future emergency. The project will be on going for at least another two years. The towers of the new span create an interesting challenge as they are accessible only by boat. The towers are currently 200 feet tall on their way to approximately 400 feet. The towers are giant confined spaces which add to the difficulty of any rescue situation should an accident or medical emergency occur. The members were able to walk through the site and formulate a rescue plan including access concerns, anchor points, crane use as well as a multitude of different options. The security and safety staff were great hosts and we look forward to continued cooperation as the project continues.
