At 6:12pm, HFD dispatch received a commercial alarm; smoke detector activation in the bar area of 191 E. Hartsdale Avenue, Vega Restaurant. A full assignment was dispatched along with Ladder 1 from Fairview. Engine 170 arrived on scene, reporting a 1 story commercial structure, and that they were investigating. Members of Engine 170 made contact with the manager of Vega who reported a smoke condition in the restaurant with reason unknown. Greenville Ladder 4 was added to the assignment. As the members of E-170 made entry to 191 E. Hartsdale Avenue to investigate, an urgent message was transmitted by Engine 170's MPO, who received a verbal from a pedestrian reporting smoke condition in 199 E. Hartsdale Avenue, Pampered Paws. E-170 and its crew moved up the block and investigated. There was a heavy smoke condition within the occupancy. Members of E-170 performed through the lock forcible entry and encountered zero visibility conditions within the structure. A 10-75 was transmitted by Car 2172, which added Engine 174 from Fairview and Scarsdale L-28 as the FAST Truck. A 2 1/2" hose line was requested and stretched to the door by E-170 MPO and E-175 (Acting Engine 169's) crew. E-170's crew used the Thermal Imaging Camera to conduct a primary search and locate the fire, which was halfway back in the store behind a set of doors. Members backed out, closing the second door to minimize fire spread until the 2 1/2" line was charged and ready. The Thermal Imaging Camera was utilized to direct the hose stream to the seat of the fire, which was quickly knocked down. During these operations, a positive water source was secured from the hydrant. Fairview Ladder 1 was located in front of the structure and set up to get to the roof if necessary to ventilate. Due to tin ceilings, extra hooks were requested into the structure to pull the ceilings and check for extension. There was minimal extension into the ceiling joists. The fire was placed knocked down and under control at 6:30pm. Companies continued to overhaul and ventilate. All units were placed in service at 7:41pm.
